From the README

An interactive browser version of John Conway's famous cellular automaton — plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript in a single file.

Try it · Extended version.

Not a game in the usual sense, but a cellular automaton: a grid of cells that are either alive or dead. A few simple rules produce astonishingly complex patterns — gliders, oscillators, whole "machines" that build new ones.

Underpopulation: a live cell with fewer than 2 live neighbours dies. Survival: a live cell with 2 or 3 live neighbours lives on. Overpopulation: a live cell with more than 3 live neighbours dies.
